Vault copy of Birth Registration Certificate
Some governments, most notably the British Government prefer what is termed a Vault Certificate as it contains information which is considered to be a more secure form of a South African Birth record containing evidence of a person’s registered biological parents.
A certified Vault copy of one’s birth registration is a copy of the form completed by one’s parents when a child’s birth was registered. The name is derived from the fact that it is stored in a vault at Home affairs in Pretoria. The document is a copy of the single, hand written birth record, stamped and signed by a home affairs officer and is characterised by its pink South African Home Affairs stamp.
The British Government requires this document together with the Unabridged Birth Certificate when a person applies for the first time for British Passports or Ancestral Visas.
